History:
Mushrooms are one of the earliest foods known to be consumed by humans. Their popularity grew as humans transitioned from hunter gatherers to a more civilized species. Egyptian Pharaohs enjoyed mushrooms so much that commoners were forbidden to eat them. They appear in rituals in Russia, China, and Greece where they were believed to give super human strength. Louis XIV of France became the first mushroom grower and had them grown in caves outside of Paris for his personal enjoyment.
Ingredients
Portobello mushrooms
4 cloves of garlic
2 tbs butter
3 tbs chopped herbs (I used parsley and basil)
2 tbs red wine vinegar
Pinch of granulated sugar
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Chop the garlic into thin slices. In a pan with olive oil, cook the garlic until it begins to turn golden (you can add as much garlic as you like!) Add your mushrooms and cook until they begin to release water. Add the butter and cook for a few minutes more. Add the red wine vinegar and the pinch of sugar and let it cook down for a few more minutes. Add herbs, salt, and pepper then take off the heat and serve!
Official Statement:
